The back to school parties are continuing on today at Pear Berry Lane, and actually, they will be continuing into next week as well. Today I’m partying with Simple Life Pattern Co. and am so excited to be joining in! Over the summer I started using SLPco patterns a lot more consistently for a number of reasons. One is that I started connecting with bloggers and sewists that work within the business and the other is that I was sucked in by the free cami and headband pattern. I also sewed up a few Bella dresses and my girls just love them. I feel like with SLPco, if I sew it, they will wear it.
Each day people have shared a school related post that also has a theme. Today my school make is inspired by school spirit. Peyton’s school colors are blue, white, and yellow. I’ve been wanting to make her a school spirit dress for quite a while, so this was the perfect opportunity to force myself to stick to my plan. Even though we were inspired by school colors, we didn’t go too over the top so that she can wear this outside of school and still feel like it’s appropriate. The Eagle Applique was vetoed early on. Total bummer because I already own one.
We used Rayann’s Retro Top and Dress pattern for our make. This is a perfect school dress pattern because it offers sleeve options. In the sewing world I often feel trapped by files and files of sleeveless dress patterns. The sleeved options are sometimes a hard to find feature, especially for wovens. We aren’t allowed to wear sleeveless, so these cap sleeves are perfect for the hot weather but still meet school dress code.
This is dress has some fun accent features. I love the strips within the skirt, and the buttoned sash is a fun way to cinch in the ease without having to deal with a tie all day at school. The square neckline is a new-ish feature for us. It was super simple construction, so I can not complain.
